Curbed - Renoir Hotel Going Boutique

The transformation of Mid-Market continues with news that the Renoir Hotel will be converted to a high-end boutique hotel that will cater to the tech-oriented crowd. Kor Group, best known for Viceroy Hotels in Santa Monica and Palm Springs, purchased the 130-room hotel in February 2012. The 1926 building, near the corner of 7th and Market streets, has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1986. The hotel closed on April 16, and will begin a $40 million remodel.

The remodel will completely revamp the hotel, both inside and out. Celebrity designer Kelly Wearstler will be in charge of interiors that the developer promises “will be very different from anything she has designed before and very different from anything else in San Francisco.” The outside of the building will feature revamped masonry, windows and terra cotta. Four or more retail spaces will be featured “including a 4,500 sq. ft. rooftop bar with 360-degree views.” No new name or renderings have been released, but we will update you promptly when they become available.
